5 Days in Barcelona

Barcelona or Iceland were our two choices for where we would spend our first wedding anniversary. The sunshine won in the end and we spent five wonderful days in sunny Barcelona.

In High School I did a project in Art class where I chose to focus on architecture. That’s where I remember discovering Antoni Gaudí, and his wonderfully distinctive style. I saw pictures of the colouful Park Guell and many of the buildings scattered around Barcelona, and I was inspired. Fast forward twelve years later and there I am - stood beneath the Sagrada Familia in awe.

Jon & I spent our anniversary wandering the streets of Barcelona, eating ice-cream in the Ciutadella Park, watching surfers at the beach, and going out for a romantic dinner in a Gaudi built restaurant.

Our five day trip went something like this:

Park Guell Barcelona Barceloneta Barcelona El Born Barcelona Arc de Triomf Barcelona Barcelona view Barceloneta Barcelona MNAC Barcelona Park Guell Barcelona Castell de Montjuic Barcelona Sagrada Familia Barcelona Barcelona from Montjuic Snail in Barcelona MNAC at night Barcelona

And in words, some of things we got up to between siestas and sangrias:

  1. Park Guell / Sagrada Familia / Dinner: Pizzeria Eden

  2. Casa Battlo / La Rambla / Mercado de La Boqueria / Gothic Quarter (Catedral de Barcelona) / El Born (Picasso Museum) / Flamenco show / Dinner: Bodega Biarritz 1881

  3. Arc de Triomf / Parc de la Ciutadella / Barceloneta Beach / Dinner: Casa Calvet

  4. Poble Sec / Castell de Montjuic (via Funicular) / Museu Nacional d’Art de Catalunya / Magic Fountain / Dinner: Taps

  5. El Born / Bakery: Dolceria De La Colmena / Port Cable Car

It was everything I dreamed of and more.
